The Fangirl Life

THE FANGIRL LIFE

"Being a fangirl is easy" What? Whoever said that obviously never been or tried to be a fangirl. Being a fangirl is one of the hardest things in the world. It gives you a violent whirl of emotions, frustration and the so-called feels.

When someone hears the word fangirl, most people associate it with cynical and dramatic little girls. They think of girls screaming, pulling their hair off their scalps, crying in different languages and possessive psychos that act as if their favorite artist is theirs. Well, as a fellow fangirl, I will not deny that it is true, but this is just a side effect of being a fangirl.

What really is a fangirl? They are girls, or should I say young and very proper ladies that obsess over a band, artist, actor or a fictional character. But why? why do girls obsess over a person who does not even know them? Why do most girls stick to people who do not know them instead of guys around them?

Some of you might be thinking, oh typical teenage girls with high standards for men. That's not the case. The truth is, fangirls get higher standards because of their favorite singer/band. Since a lot of people question about girls' obsession for bands, here it is. So why do we obsess? Why do we fangirl? There is something about these bands we idolize. We obsess because of attraction. We get attracted because of their passion or good music or good looks or whatever. And we get this weird tingly feeling that subliminally says "yo, this person/ these people, I know I'll like him/them. Hey, what about I'll start my research on them now and probably dedicate my life on it"

It's not all about idolizing one's handsomeness, most fangirls (including me) feel better because of these bands and artists. Most fangirls idolize artists because they relate to their songs, or they just think that these people are attractive so they obsess over them. If the band has strong appeal, it's a big bonus for them. Personally, I think it's annoying when a person idolize a band just because of their looks and barely acknowledges the music and message they bring.

One more reason why girls obsess over bands is because when a they've just had a bad day, their favorite people are to the rescue! Yay. Just by looking at their pictures and listening to their songs, fangirls immediately feel relieved and better. It may seem silly to some, but this is how the fangirl life is. As ridiculous and dramatic as it sounds, they are like anti-depressants. They become our happy little pills. Who needs all the negativity in this world if there are bands?! But what's sad is, bands and artists are the only positive energy existing in my life. And they play an important role in many people's lives.
